Sightings of Lesser Flamingo (Phoenicoparrus minor) in Morocco.

Oualidia

An immature bird was found at the Oualidia wetland complex on 16 October 2017 (Abdeslam Rihane).

This is the 15th record for Morocco. This may seem many but the species still very rare in the country because most of these records are old ones.

Elsewhere in Northwest Africa, this sub-Saharan species was recorded also in Tunisia once (2 birds at Thyna saltpans, Sfax on 29 January 2010). There is no known record in Algeria.

Oued Souss

An adult bird found at the estuary of Oued Souss on the 1st January 2019 by a Swiss birding group (K. Varga, D. Henseler, S. Werner and R. Wüst). This is the 16th record for Morocco.
