At least one male Sudan Golden Sparrow (Passer luteus) observed yesterday by a group of Dutch birders (Gonny van Dalfsen, Larissa Bakker, Nico Omlo…) at Oued Jenna, Aousserd (photo 1).
To my knowledge, last year there was only one observation of Sudan Golden Sparrow in Aousserd: a juvenil bird photographed by Peter Stronach and Bob Swann during the same birding trip when they recorded 4 Golden Nightjars. On the other hand, 2015 was an excellent year for the species both at Bir Anzarane and at Oued Jenna and the small ‘wadis‘ along the Aousserd road.
A Pied Crow (Corvus albus) photographed yesterday at 21 km north-east of Tarfaya by Abdeljebbar Qninba, Abdeslam Rihane and their colleagues. The long-staying Pied Crow at Mhamid was still there in November 2016 and in 2017.
A Tawny Eagle (Aquila rapax) observed on 8 January at Dakhla Bay by a group of Dutch birders (Gonny van Dalfsen, Larissa Bakker, Nico Omlo…). The group noted in observado that it’s from the nominate subspecies (rapax). No photos yet.
On 6 February, a flock of 20 Sudan Golden Sparrows observed at Oued Jenna by Norbert van de Grint, but he couldn’t photograph them (observation.org). The flock size reminiscent of the observations at Bir Anzarane in 2015.
On 13 February, a group of birders (reported in observation.org) as well as the ‘Big Year WP’ team observed a few birds including the nice male in photo 2.
