Namaqua Dove (Oena capensis) at Rabat

By MaghrebOrnitho | 23 March 2016

The Namaqua Doves (Oena capensis) found in the Aousserd region last week received all the attention (along with the Golden Nightjars), but no one have thought about finding them as far north as Rabat. Lisle Gwynn whilst leading Tropical Birding’s Morocco tour saw one Namaqua Dove flying across the road just south of Rabat on 14 March 2016. This is the most northerly location for this species in Morocco.

On the other hand, they also found a Franklin’s Gull (Leucophaeus pipixcan) at the Oued Souss estuary in Agadir in the morning of 21 March.

Thanks Lisle, indeed a very interesting record!
